Norfolk School Solar Panels Monitored

Solar panel systems at Norfolk schools are being regularly inspected following three recent fires at schools in neighbouring Suffolk.

Solar panels installed at schools across Norfolk are being closely monitored following three fires at schools in neighbouring Suffolk.

Norfolk County Council says it has not received reports of any similar incidents or safety concerns involving solar panel systems at schools in the county.

The authority says installations covered by its own maintenance programme will continue to receive regular checks and inspections to make sure they remain safe and operate correctly.

The reassurance follows precautionary action by Suffolk County Council, which is temporarily isolating solar panel systems at around 80 schools while investigations continue into three separate fires.

Suffolk officials have stressed that the exact cause of the fires has not yet been established and that solar panels have not been confirmed as responsible. However, the council said it could not rule out a possible connection and was taking action as a precaution.

In Norfolk, the county council says there is currently no evidence requiring similar action.

Schools with solar installations that fall within the council’s maintenance arrangements will continue to be inspected in line with existing schedules, with any concerns investigated if they arise.

The council says it will also continue to monitor developments in Suffolk as investigations into the fires progress.
