More than 800 volunteers collected around two-and-a-half tonnes of rubbish during Broadland’s biggest-ever community litter picking campaign across the district.
More than 800 volunteers have taken part in Broadland’s biggest-ever community litter-picking campaign.
Broadland District Council says a record 807 people from 36 community groups, schools, clubs and associations joined this year’s Big Litter Pick.
The campaign ran between February and May, with volunteers collecting around 350 bags of rubbish from towns, villages and green spaces across the district.
The council estimates that amounts to approximately two-and-a-half tonnes of waste.
Now in its fourth year, the Big Litter Pick provides groups with equipment and guidance, while the council arranges for bags of collected rubbish to be removed afterwards.
Participating organisations were also entered into a prize draw for a share of a £4,000 community fund.
Ten groups each received £250, while the remaining participating groups were awarded £50 vouchers to support local projects, charities or community organisations.
Broadland District Council says the number of people taking part has continued to grow and demonstrates the pride residents have in their local communities.
Litter-picking equipment remains available throughout the year for groups wanting to organise their own clean-up events.
