Hosepipe Ban Still A Possibility

Anglian Water is urging customers to save water as it warns a hosepipe ban cannot be ruled out this summer.

Anglian Water has warned it cannot rule out introducing a hosepipe ban later this summer as another period of hot, dry weather approaches.

The company had previously said it had no plans to bring in water restrictions this year, but says recent weather conditions mean the situation is changing rapidly and continues to be closely monitored.

Prolonged warm weather, low rainfall and increasing demand for water during the summer months have all put extra pressure on supplies across the east of England.

While no restrictions are currently in place, Anglian Water is encouraging customers to use water wisely wherever possible. Simple steps such as using a watering can instead of a hose, turning off taps while brushing teeth and avoiding unnecessary water use can make a significant difference.

The company says it is continuing to monitor reservoir levels, river flows and customer demand before making any decisions on temporary use bans.

Another heatwave is forecast to affect parts of eastern England over the coming days, bringing the possibility of higher water consumption as people water gardens, fill paddling pools and try to keep cool.

Anglian Water says using water carefully now could help reduce the need for restrictions later in the summer.
