Norfolk County Council has temporarily limited where residents can recycle fridges and freezers because of a national processing shortage.
Norfolk County Council has introduced temporary restrictions on where residents can dispose of unwanted fridges and freezers because of a national shortage of specialist recycling capacity.
From today, cooling appliances will only be accepted at seven of the county's larger recycling centres, including both Norwich sites, King's Lynn and Thetford.
The council says the move is necessary because facilities that process fridges and freezers are experiencing reduced capacity nationwide, making it more difficult to handle the usual volume of appliances.
Residents are being encouraged to keep old fridges and freezers for a little longer, where it is safe and practical to do so, until the national situation improves.
The temporary measures are intended to help manage demand and ensure the available processing capacity is used as efficiently as possible.
The council has apologised for any inconvenience and says it will continue to monitor the situation closely. Residents are advised to check which recycling centres are accepting cooling appliances before making a journey.
The restrictions will remain in place until specialist recycling capacity returns to normal levels.
