Refuse, street cleaning and grounds staff in Great Yarmouth are set to strike next month in an ongoing pay dispute.
Around 100 refuse collectors, street cleaning operatives and grounds maintenance staff in Great Yarmouth are set to take strike action next month as part of an ongoing dispute over pay.
The industrial action involves members of the Unite union, who have rejected a proposed 3.3% pay increase. The union says workers are instead seeking a 20% rise, arguing that wages have failed to keep pace with the rising cost of living and the demands of the roles.
Great Yarmouth Services, which delivers environmental services on behalf of the borough council, says the union's pay claim is not affordable and has defended its offer as fair and sustainable.
The company has confirmed it is putting contingency plans in place to help protect essential services during any industrial action. These measures are expected to focus on maintaining key refuse collections and ensuring public health services continue wherever possible.
No agreement has yet been reached between the two sides, but discussions are continuing in an effort to resolve the dispute.
Residents are being advised that some services could be disrupted if the strike goes ahead, with further details expected closer to the planned dates of industrial action.
