Family and friends are raising £15,000 for a cuddle bed at King’s Lynn hospital in memory of farmer Jason Carr.
Friends and family of a Norfolk farmer who died from cancer are raising money to provide a specialist cuddle bed at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn.
The appeal has been launched in memory of Jason Carr, who died earlier this year aged 54 after receiving end-of-life care on the hospital’s Peddars Way Unit.
The group hopes to raise £15,000 to buy the unit its first cuddle bed.
The specialist equipment can be extended to form a double bed, allowing relatives to lie alongside a loved one receiving end-of-life care and spend precious time together.
Jason’s partner Angela said the compassion and kindness shown to the family during his final days had inspired them to help other patients and their loved ones.
More than £8,000 has already been raised through a series of fundraising activities, including cycling challenges and the Cambridge Half Marathon.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital charity says the bed would help provide comfort and dignity for patients while allowing families to remain physically close at an incredibly difficult time.
Hospital staff have thanked Jason’s family, friends and the wider community for supporting the campaign, which they hope will create a lasting tribute to him while benefiting other families using the Peddars Way Unit.
