A South Norfolk councillor wants targeted parking enforcement outside schools following repeated complaints about motorists blocking roads during pickup times.
A South Norfolk councillor is calling for targeted parking enforcement outside schools following repeated complaints from residents and parents.
Gary Blundell, who represents New Costessey and sits with the South Norfolk Independents group, wants the council to consider a pilot scheme focusing enforcement officers on school areas at busy drop-off and collection times.
He has suggested Costessey, Wymondham, Diss and Hethersett as possible locations for an initial trial.
Mr Blundell says residents regularly report motorists parking on double yellow lines, restricted areas and in places which make roads difficult to use safely.
He believes concentrating enforcement patrols around schools at specific times could act as a deterrent to persistent offenders.
South Norfolk Council already carries out civil parking enforcement and its officers are able to issue penalty notices where vehicles are parked in breach of restrictions.
However, enforcement teams cover a wide geographical area and cannot be present outside every school each day.
Mr Blundell wants councillors to explore whether resources could instead be targeted at known problem areas for short periods around the beginning and end of the school day.
The proposal has not yet been adopted by the council and would need to be considered before any pilot scheme could begin.
