Proposed housing development in Acle raises concerns about school capacity, with parents urged to respond before consultation closes this month.
Plans for a major new housing development in Acle have raised concerns about the impact on local schools, with residents being encouraged to have their say before the consultation closes.
Developer Norfolk Homes is consulting on proposals for land south of South Walsham Road, close to Acle Academy.
The development would bring additional homes to the village, alongside proposed infrastructure, open space and a new link road.
However, the plans have prompted concerns about whether existing educational facilities could accommodate the additional demand generated by new families moving into the area.
Acle Academy's headteacher, Helen Watts, has highlighted the pressure already facing the secondary school, warning that classrooms and other facilities are operating at capacity.
There are also concerns that the current development proposals could restrict opportunities for the school to expand in the future.
The academy is encouraging parents, residents and the wider community to respond to the consultation, particularly regarding school capacity, road safety and access arrangements.
Norfolk Homes says feedback from the consultation will help inform its proposals before a detailed planning application is submitted to Broadland District Council.
The consultation runs until Friday 30 October 2026.
Residents can view the proposals and submit their comments through the Norfolk Homes website at norfolkhomes.co.uk/acle-consultation/.
